"The Landing" reenacts the classic sci-fi trope of a space explorer making an impact with unknown cultures. Borrowing symbols from human history and pop culture, the scenes where the astronaut and people see and be seen by one another, the supposedly eventful scenes where the astronauts and the walkers first see each other are narrated with symbols borrowed from human history and pop culture, making them both strange and familiar at the same time.
